I’m a sucker for french fries, and apparently so is everyone else – they are one of the most popular foods in the United States, largely due to fast food restaurants. The problem with the typical or traditional french fry, though, is they’re fried in oil. There are some options for baking them instead of deep frying, but even the recipes that use less oil still use some. And even though air fryers have become pretty popular recently, most recipes for air fryers still use oil!
In comes my true no oil solution – the oil free air fryer french fry.
I tried a lot of variations when it came to shape and size of the fry, coating, and spices, and have come up with this recipe that comes out crispy on the outside while still soft on the inside, not burnt, not too dry, not too soggy, doesn’t stick together (for the most part) and comes out delicious.
These french fries are:
- Crispy
- Soft on the inside
- Spice-ful
- Great on their own, but pair great with your favorite sauce (mine is sriracha ketchup)
They’re also easy to prep and take just 20 minutes in the fryer, while having twice the fiber, a whopping 19x less fat than a store bought option, and can easily be made gluten free. On top of all that? They’re just as cheap or cheaper than a bag you’d get from the store.

Notes
- You can make oat flour yourself by blending rolled oats in your blender.
- Leave the air fryer running while you quickly toss the fries in the basket, rather than pausing the timer. Pausing the time will overcook them.
