This is the first recipe in a sort of mini-series where I’m releasing one recipe (if you can even really call them that!) every day this week, leading up to the vlog coming out on Friday with the last recipe where I make each one of these as part of a “What I Eat in a Day.” I’m calling this one sweet oatmeal cereal because it’s a quick, cold way to eat rolled oats and milk, similar to cereal.
Rolled and quick oats are both a whole grain and can be eaten raw, straight out of the box because they are pre-cooked before they’re packaged. While it may sound weird, if you’ve ever enjoyed muesli or overnight oats, this will be right up your alley. It’s also easy to make it your own because you can add fresh, frozen or dried fruit, nuts or seeds, cocoa powder, vanilla extract or anything else you think might go great in it.
I’ve enjoyed them for breakfast (and do in the vlog) but I typically throw this together in the evenings in place of a dessert if I’m craving something sweet. Either way, it’s a nice way to be able to eat oats without having to wait for them to soak up the liquid (i.e. overnight oats) or heat them up if you’re looking for a cold dish during the spring or summer.
