Welcome to Plants Not Plastic – a website dedicated to delicious, inexpensive, simple, and healthy eating, as well as minimalism and zero waste.
THE RECIPES
My recipes require minimal, non-specialty ingredients, and are easy to recreate in any household kitchen. All are plant-based, have no oil, no meat or dairy substitutes (tempeh meat, vegan butter, etc.), and minimal nuts, seeds, or avocados. I also typically apply my minimalist and zero waste lifestyle principles to how I cook.
Why I cook this way is kind of a long story, but a good one if you’re interested.
Many of my recipes are also gluten-free, as some of our family members are Celiac and we are naturally drawn to food that works for everyone.
ABOUT ME
I’m Nikita, a Northern California native living in Los Angeles with my husband, Dan, and our three cats, Fettuccine, Basil, & Hazelnut (they weren’t intentionally named after food for the purposes of the blog – I think it’s just an indication of how much we love food?).
Dan and I have been eating plant-based since August of 2013 and have practiced zero-waste since February of 2016. Plants Not Plastic was born by combining the two, where I’ve come to love creating new recipes while improving my photography skills. I’m a sucker for sweets, celebrate when I refine a new dish, and adore the crap out of my cats (with hundreds of pictures to prove it).
Check out my Shop Page for recommendations on kitchen essentials, zero waste alternatives to traditional plastic products, and more about the camera equipment I use to capture my creations.
